The University of KwaZulu-Natal brings together the teaching and research strengths of two major tertiary institutions in the province. Located an hour's drive from the Indian Ocean, Pietermaritzburg is a city of charm and old-world dignity and the primarily residential campus enables students to integrate quickly both inside and outside of the classroom. The university campus is located in the shady, tree-lined suburb of Scottsville, a 20-minute walk from the center of Pietermaritzburg. Pietermaritzburg is a vibrant city full of stately colonial buildings, avenues lined with huge jacaranda trees, and narrow side streets with bustling shops and restaurants.
