      The NUI Galway has Colleges of Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies; Science; Business, Public Policy, & Law; Engineering & Informatics; and Medicine, Nursing, & Health Sciences. As a study abroad student, you may take a wide range of classes within most of the University’s colleges and are encouraged to take courses in no more than two departments due to potential scheduling conflicts.


    • Preferred application deadlines are: October 15th for Spring semester and April 15th for Fall semester. Call for availability after these dates.
    • At the time of application a student should normally have attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  Students should hold Sophomore, Junior or Senior class standing at the time of study.
    • Course pre-approval is not available in advance of arrival; final registration takes place on arrival.
    • Students are encouraged to take courses in no more than two departments due to potential scheduling conflicts.
    • Standard full-time credit load: 14-16 U.S. semester-hour credits. The total number of courses will vary depending on the credit weighting of each course.

    • Students’ Union runs a club, shop, photocopying services and a travel agency; clubs and societies catering to most interests. Films, discos, concerts and other entertainment are offered throughout the year.
    • Indoor Sports and Recreation Center facilities include squash courts, climbing wall, an American handball court, a weight training room, a boxing gymnasium, a multi-purpose hall for tennis, basketball, fully equipped gym, soccer, badminton and volleyball.
    • The ALIVE volunteer program provides opportunities to work on community projects in Ireland or abroad.
    • One main library and two branch libraries offer 1,600 reader places and numerous computer clusters with full internet access as well as a wireless network.
    • Students live in University apartments with local students. Accommodations are single rooms, self-catered. Laundry facilities, a shop and café are available on site.
