The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University is an engaged and people-centered university that serves the needs of its diverse communities by contributing to sustainable development through excellent academic courses, research and service delivery. The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University campus, the largest in the southern hemisphere, virtually surrounded by the sea and coastal dunes, is a proclaimed nature reserve. It is four miles from the city center of Port Elizabeth, the fifth largest city in South Africa with a population of over one million people. NMMU is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse universities in southern Africa.

    • Preferred application deadlines are: October 15th for Spring semester and April 15th for Fall semester. Call for availability after these dates.
    • At the time of application a student should normally have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and hold a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior class standing.
    • Interstudy students can combine courses offered in different departments and faculties as scheduling allows.
    • Standard full-time credit load:14-16 U.S. credits per semester. The total number of courses will vary depending on the credit weighing of each course.
    • Course pre-approval is not available in advance of arrival; final registration takes place on-site.
