Stellenbosch is situated in the heart of South Africa’s Cape Winelands region and is located only 20 minutes to the nearest beach and one hour to Cape Town by rail. If you’re a nature lover, you’ll enjoy the nearby hiking trails or even a walk in the Botanical Gardens in the town. Interstudy's summer program at Stellenbosch is the best way to be introduced to the Western Cape region of South Africa with included excursions to Cape Town, Swellendam, and the Garden Route.

Program Info

 

    Founded in 1866, Stellenbosch University is recognized as one of the top universities in South Africa. The summer program consists of lectures, group discussions, and field trips taught by Stellenbosch faculty and other South African experts. Lectures cover a variety of topics, including Community Engagement, History, Politics, Biodiversity, Art, Film, Literature, Sociology, Public Health, and Philosophy.

    You may choose between three different options: the Multidisciplinary Option is a four-week program where you take three courses worth a total of 6 U.S. credits; the Service Learning Option is a five-week, two course, program worth a total of 7 U.S. credits; the Business Option is a five-week, two course, business focused program worth a total of 7 U.S. credits.

     

    • Students must choose between Stellenbosch Multidisciplinary Option (four weeks, three courses, 6 US Credits), Stellenbosch Service Learning Option (five weeks, service learning course, 7 US credits), or Stellenbosch Business Option (five weeks, business focused course, 7 US credits).     • To participate in any Interstudy summer program, you must have completed one year of university and be in good academic standing at your home institution (2 years for Business Option). For Service Learning Option, and Business Option a minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.

    • The excursion program at Stellenbosch includes day and weekend trips to Cape Town and surrounding areas including Table Mountain, Cape Point, Robben Island, and Swellendam.
    • After the program ends, you will participate in a weeklong tour of South Africa’s famous Garden Route, a stunning stretch of Western Cape coastline, rich in diverse natural beauty.
    • While at Stellenbosch, you’ll be housed on campus in a double room in the Monica dormitory, which also features a cafeteria. Breakfast is included in the cost of the program.
