Academic Calendar
The
South African academic year starts in February and ends in November.
Interstudy students spending, for example, the North American Fall
semester in South Africa will actually be entering the second semester
of the South African system after the South African mid-year
(July/winter) break. At Wits, the semester-based calendar is subdivided
in four terms: the first (from February to April) and second (from
April to May) form Semester I, which corresponds with the Spring
semester in the North American academic calendar; and after a
three-to-four week break in June/July, the third term (from July to
September) and fourth (from September to November) form Semester II
which roughly corresponds with the North American Fall semester.
