Locating Courses at Queen's University Belfast

  • View the Queen's University Belfast Web page.
  • Under “Subject Search”, find your departments of interest.
  • Once you have selected a department, select semester 1 for Fall or 2 for spring and click “Look Up”.
  • Another scroll menu will then appear with a list of courses/modules.
  • Select a module and click “View Document” to read a full description.
  • Refer to the first digit in the course code to determine which semester the course/module is offered
    (ex. 210HIS108 – Semester 2 or Spring)

Credit Conversion

  • Courses/modules are normally worth 5 U.S. credits, so the normal course load is three courses per semester.
  • 10 Queen’s credits = 5 U.S. credits
  • Credit weighting varies by course/module.
  • To determine a module’s credit weighting, refer to the 2nd and 3rd digits in the course code (ex. 210HIS108 – 10 Queen’s credits = 5 U.S. credits; 205HIS108 – 5 Queen’s credits = 2.5 U.S. credits).

Academic Calendar

The academic year is divided into two semesters (fall and spring). Students may enroll for one semester or an academic year. However, as fall semester examinations are held in January, Fall students must undertake assessment in lieu of formal examination before they leave in December.
